On November 19th 2020, KNHG will organize its Annual Conference in close partnership with Environmental Humanities Center at the Free University of Amsterdam (VU). Due to restrictions related to COVID-19, the conference will be held digitally. Its title is ‘More-than-human Past. Historians, Eco-History and Environmental Humanities’ (‘Meer dan Menselijk Verleden: Historici, Eco-geschiedenis en Environmental Humanities’).
In the morning there will be two key note lectures in English by Prof. Dr. Tim Soens (University of Antwerp) and Dr. Katie Ritson (Rachel Carson Center, Munich), after which there will be room for discussion. In the afternoon, the conference language will switch to Dutch and the programme will consist of two parts. In the first part, participants can choose one of three simultaneously held sessions. For the second part, there’s an option between participating in a discussion on the applicability of environmental humanities either in education or in historicial science.
