KNHG endorses statement by European Federation of Academies of Sciences on threats to academic freedom

The European Federation of Academies of Science (ALLEA) has expressed its grave concerns about escalating threats to academic freedom and international scientific collaboration in the United States. More than 40 knowledge institutions and scientific organisations from the Netherlands, including RNHS, and other countries have signed the statement.

In the US, research projects are at a standstill in many places due to sudden freezing of funding by the new administration. In addition, certain areas of research, such as climate change and gender studies, are facing censorship. ALLEA’s statement highlights the importance and role of academic freedom in democratic societies and calls for collective efforts to safeguard it.
