The University Münster, Germany, invites applications for a Professorship of Modern and Contemporary History of the Netherlands.

Job description

The position conforms to the level of a full professorship (W3) and starts at September 01st, 2021.

The position covers the modern and contemporary history of the Netherlands in its entirety with respect to both research and academic teaching. A research focus on the period from the nineteenth to the early twenty-first century and on Dutch-German relations is particularly welcome. The holder of the professorship will also serve as the director of the Centre for Dutch Studies. This includes the responsibility for the Bachelor and Master teaching programmes in Dutch-German Studies. The director is also responsible for the Centre’s knowledge transfer activities. This includes the organisation of public events and exhibitions on the Netherlands and on Dutch- German relations. Competence regarding knowledge transfer in a Dutch and/or German context is highly welcome. The future holder of the professorship will continue the Centre’s cooperation with faculty in other disciplines related to Dutch studies.

Requirements

Required qualifications include aptitude for academic teaching and an excellent research profile, which builds on the excellent quality of a doctoral thesis in modern and contemporary history. Applicants should either have been Juniorprofessor (assistant professor), completed a Habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), or have been post-doctoral researcher in a university or non-university research institute. Alternatively, an academic profile may have developed in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant fields of employment. Finally, candidates are expected to possess language skills in both Dutch and German at least on the B2-level.
