Job description
NIOD is looking for a Work Package Leader (0.7 FTE) to perform duties across two projects related to the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) which is coordinated by NIOD with funding from the European Commission. The Work Package Leader is a member of the two Project Management Boards and hence contributes to the coordination and oversight of the two projects as a whole.
EHRI is large multi-national consortium (25 partners form 17 countries) that aims to develop a sustainable, state-of-the-art research infrastructure for Holocaust research. It integrates the repositories and expertise of archives, libraries, museums, memorials and research institutions holding Holocaust-related sources.
EHRI is currently implemented via two Horizon 2020-funded projects. The EHRI Preparatory Phase Project (EHRI-PP) aims to transform EHRI into a permanent European Research Infrastructure with its own legal personality and long-term funding streams. The goals of the EHRI-3 project are the further integration of the holdings and expertise of dispersed Holocaust collection holders, and the development of new and enhanced services.
The successful candidate will lead two Work Packages (WP). This will involve coordinating the activities of two international work package teams, as well as significantly contributing to the two WP’s outputs. She/he will further contribute to other project activities as required. In EHRI-PP, she/he will take the lead of the work package that condenses and synthesises deliverables from across the project into EHRI’s business plan and implementation strategy. She/he will also contribute to the development of a detailed financial plan and strategy for the future permanent EHRI organization.
In EHRI-3, she/he will lead the “Impact, Innovation and Sustainability” work package. Its tasks are to co-ordinate specific activities highlighting EHRI’s social and cultural impact, to produce an innovation strategy and to ensure the sustainable integration of the results of EHRI-3 into the future permanent EHRI organisation. He/she will further contribute to one or two other EHRI-3 WPs as required.
The successful candidate will have a varied brief, and her/his activities will range from crafting a business plan for the future permanent EHRI organisation to developing an EHRI innovation and social impact strategy. Flexibility and an ability to swiftly gain new knowledge, skills and competences will therefore be essential to succeed in this role.
The Work Page Leader will be part of the EHRI team at NIOD-KNAW, currently consisting of seven people, and will be working under the direction of the two EHRI Co-Directors, Karel Berkhoff and Reto Speck. All activities of the WP Leader will be carried out jointly with multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional teams from across Europe, Israel and the United States.
