In the Faculty of Cultural Studies, the Institute of History is seeking to appoint a:
at the earliest possible date. Junior professors are appointed as temporary civil servants for a period of three years, whereby a positive evaluation should lead to the employment contract being extended by a further three years.
For Belgium, the Benelux Union and the European Union, Flanders today exercises numerous and central political, economic and cultural functions, some of which are also integrated into global contexts. Flanders is a hub for constant exchange with its immediate neighbours France, England and Germany. At times, however, its history has also been closely linked to that of Italy, Spain, Austria and several African countries such as the Congo. This points to manifold interconnections that can be traced back to the Middle Ages and were subject to strong trans-formations. Applicants should break down and explain this history in research and teaching from the focus of their respective epochs.
The tasks of the future incumbent include teaching in the established courses of the Institute of History and the newly accredited Master’s programme “BeNeLux Studies” with a total of 4 se-mester hours a week, dedicated collaboration in the Paderborn Belgium Centre and Belgium-Net, as well as participation in the research network on regional education BeNeLux, which is in the process of being established.
Employment requirements are in line with § 36, Para. 1, Items 1 to 3 HG NRW and com-prise a completed relevant university degree, pedagogical aptitude and a doctorate with a fo-cus on the history of Flanders.
In addition, a perfect command of Dutch (C2), a good knowledge of French and German, and a planned research project on the history of the interconnections of Flanders are required.
