The Department of History and Art History (GKG) in collaboration with the Graduate School of Teaching (GST) seeks to appoint an associate professor in history education and civic engagement. The field engages with historical knowledge and its role in sustaining civic engagement, with a pronounced focus on civic education in relation to primary and secondary education, (cultural) heritage, and media such as museums, documentaries and the internet. Applicants are expected to take an active role in linking academic and non-academic ways of understanding the past with a view to civic engagement, and should have an interest in transcending national contexts. The position involves building and maintaining networks among institutions for educational training, civic engagement and history education in and outside the Netherlands.

Utrecht University has a teaching qualification system for university lecturers, and candidates are required to obtain the necessary Teaching Qualifications (BKO and SKO) if they are not already in possession of them.
Candidates are expected to be versatile in both Dutch and English; non-Dutch candidates will need to master the Dutch language on an academic level within two years.
