Specific tasks:
– teaching course units within the bachelor’s degree programme in History and the master’s degree programme History Today
– teaching course units in the field of Theory of History, Global History and/or Media Studies
– teaching course units within the framework of the interdisciplinary research course units in the degree programme in Modern History and the research master programme Modern History and International Relations
– conducting research at a recognized level in the above-mentioned field
– external grant acquisition
– supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses in the above-mentioned field
– performing administrative and organisational duties.
In the area of teaching, the ideal candidate:
– has at least three years of teaching experience in the field at various levels
– has gained the University Teaching Qualification or is prepared to do so within a year
– is an excellent teacher, as demonstrated by positive teaching evaluations
– is demonstrably able to make concrete contributions to the development of course units, partly by actively linking research to teaching.
In the area of research, the ideal candidate:
– has excellent research qualities, as evidenced by a relevant record of nter) national leading journals, books and presentations at renowned conferences
– is able to set up his/her own research line and publish within it, dovetailing with the profile of the research institute
– has international experience and an international network
– is experienced in PhD supervision or is prepared to play an active role in this.
In the area of management and organisation, the ideal candidate:
– has a good command of English and Dutch or is willing to learn Dutch within two years; after two years, non-Dutch candidates must be proficient in Dutch at, at the least, CEFR B2 level (for reading and listening); Dutch candidates have a sufficient knowledge of English (CEFR B2/C1 level for reading, listening, writing and speaking). The University provides language courses in both Dutch and English
– is able to make a constructive contribution to the interdisciplinary collaboration and friendly atmosphere within the Department
– has demonstrable administrative and organisation skills.
