About Plan S

Plan S is an initiative for Open Access publishing that was launched in September 2018. The plan is supported by cOAlition S, an international consortium of research funders. Plan S requires that, from 2020, scientific publications that result from research funded by public grants must be published in compliant Open Access journals or platforms. KNHG & Open Access

As a learned society and publisher of the Open Access journal BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review (BMGN), KNHG is actively involved in the
Open Access debate. BMGN currently bears the ‘Diamond’ Open Access status, also known as ‘Platinum’. This means that all published articles are immediately and freely available, the copyrights stay with the author and no fee is asked from the authors to be able to publish their work. Furthermore, the entire archive of published articles can be found and consulted at the BMGN-LCHR website.

This dossier will be keeping you up to date regarding all new developments on the subject, related to Plan S, cOAlition S, and publishing in
