The International Committee of Historicial Science (Comité international des Sciences historiques, or CISH) has issued a statement on the war in Ukraine. In it, CISH strongly condemns the abuse of history employed by President Putin in rationalizing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. History is not owned by states or rulers, and as such CISH deplores the use of history to foster enemy images and distorted myths. As the society for historians in the Netherlands, KNHG fully supports this statement.
